Gibbs as postmaster of Harpersfield, Ohio, 1840; Brigade Quarter Master of the 2nd Brigade, 21st Division in the Ohio Militia, 1841; 1st Lieutenant of the 29th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Militia, 1862; and Captain of the 29th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, 1864. Also includes field orders of Sept. 6, 1864 publishing orders of President Lincoln and General Grant, saluting the General Sherman and the Army of the Cumberland for the capture of Atlanta.
